Both public and private institutions and companies have expressed their need forBachelor and Master graduates in the field of Agriculture with competencies on sustainable development, including those on climate change and gender issues, that match their job requirements. This is the premise of what this symposium on Education & Research in Southeast Asia for Climate Change Responses is all about.
This symposium presents the accomplishments of and learnings from one of the last activities of the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity Development in Higher Education (NICHE) in Vietnam. The partners of the project NICHE-VNM-105: Supporting the integration in Agricultural Curricula of Climate Change concerns at three Universities of Agriculture (ACCCU) share in this proceedings, four major accomplishments. The proceeding give first an overview of the activities and the results of the three partners (Chapters 1 and 2). Thereafter, the proceedings report on the methods and challenges of transforming curricula from theory-based to an orientation on competencies (skills) matching those needed in the workplace (Chapter 3). Chapters 4 and 5 report on the efforts to embed universities in the society through developing climate smart adaptation of agriculture practices and business incubators for technology transfers, by using, among others, farmers’ field school approaches.
The editors acknowledge the project team members for their contributions to the success of the project, and for the photos in these proceedings. On behalf of the three Vietnamese Universities: Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF), Hong Duc University (HDU) and Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA; formerly Hanoi University of Agriculture), we gratefully acknowledge and appreciate our partners to make this collaboration and event possible.
